ADJUMANI. The Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese His Grace John Baptist Odama has called on the people in the dioceses of Gulu, Arua, Nebbi and Lira (GANAL) to harness unity for better development of the province.
The Archbishop made the urge on Saturday at the annual pilgrimage centre Holly cross Indriani in Adjumani district during the mass.
He told the faithful to always embrace peace and unity within their hearts and with God.
“In God we believe, in Christ we prophase, if we don’t unite, we shall judge ourselves in front of God instead of God judging us”, the Archbishop stated.
He said Christians must translate their faith into action and seek for holiness of life adding that GANAL must help the people to promote peace by being peaceful in their hearts and peaceful with God.
He encouraged the four dioceses to promote self-reliance since they still have plenty of fertile lands that can support farming.
Archbishop Odama appealed to the pilgrims to always pray for South Sudan to restore peace at home. He rebuked a section of leaders purporting to be religious yet their actions promote violence.
The bishop of Lira diocese Bishop Santos Lino Wanock encouraged the Christians to embrace pilgrimage which is a new way of evangelization.
He promised that next year, pilgrims from Lira diocese will walk to Indriani and appealed to Christians from Gulu to join them as they all walk to the pilgrimage shrine.
The main celebrant, the bishop of Arua Diocese Rt Rev Sabino Ocan Odoki in his sermons said Christians must always have the cross as a sign of their salvation.
He encouraged the pilgrims to support Indriani Holy cross. He also announced that next years’ pilgrimage will be organized and animated by Maracha deanery and that subsequent ones would be rotational among all the vicariates.
Holy Cross Indiani pilgrimage centre is the place where missionaries who introduced the Catholic faith into the West Nile region first landed before spreading it to other parts of the region. Every 14th of September Christians in the Gulu Archdiocese converge at the shrine to renew their faith.
