ADJUMANI. The Copa Coca-Cola tournament for Adjumani district was on Friday concluded with the defending champions, Biyaya secondary school (SS) emerging the overall winners.

Meanwhile St Mary Assumpta SS was declared the winners of the netball competition.

Biyaya SS played the finals with Adjumani SS, beating them 3:1 at Paridi stadium.

In the girls’ football, Biyaya SS played against their rivals Alere SS thrashing them 3:1.

While addressing thousands of students shortly after the tournament, Mr Justine Thomas Edema, the Adjumani district sports committee vice chairperson noted that the players exhibited high level of discipline this year compared to last year’s tournament.

Edema said out of the 20 secondary schools in the district, 19 participated in the tournament, a positive gesture in promoting sports in the district.

Mr Emmanuel Fungaroo, the district sports officer appealed to all the teams that will go for the regional tournament to remain disciplined and united since all of them will represent Adjumani district.

Fungaroo revealed that this year’s regional tournament will be hosted by Pakwach district.

The Adjumani district head teachers’ association chairperson, Mr Godfrey Bangi commended the office of the President through the resident district commissioner for consenting to their request to finish the tournament amidst the threat of COVID-19 after the President had directed that all schools be closed on Friday before noon.

“After the regional tournament in Pakwach, Arua district will as well host the national tournament, let’s capitalize on that and take advantage of the competition being nearer and within the region”, Bangi advised.

Mr. Robert Dima, the district education officer who presided over the ceremony expressed joy for the young people for having participated in the tournament.
