ARUA. Arua district Police Commander Mr Abbas Ssenyonjo has been transferred following the Monday incident in which the Presidents vehicle is allaged to have been stoned at and the behind window smashed

But the Uganda Police public relations officer Mr Emmilian Kayima said it was a normal transfer like others who all get transferred.

“On transfer of officers, it happens every day and true, it has happened and not him alone, many others were transferred. It’s absolutely normal transfer” Kayima said.

Sources said he has been held responsible for allegedly failing to contain the fracas that ensued when opposition supporters of Mr Kassiano Wadri were alleged to have stoned the president’s motorcade and securing a safe route for the president.

Meanwhile the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has come out to condemn the violence that erupted during the last day of campaigns on Monday in the run to Arua municipality by-elections.

The elections culminated in the shooting dead of one Mr Yasin Kawuma, a driver to Kyadondo East MP Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine with scores of others reportedly arrested and injured.

Mr Kyagulanyi was in the district to campaign for FDC turned independent candidate Mr Kassiano Wadri Ezati.

Despite the opposition crying foul over the manner in which its supporters were teargased, beaten and arrested in the ensuing fracas, The NRM has also issued similar calls to police to protect their members.

“We are very concerned as the party, the president’s convoy was attacked and one of the windscreens smashed by the hooligans, such acts tantamount to treason and we call on the government to fully investigate the matter so that perpetrators can be brought to book”, Mr. Richard Todwong, the NRM deputy party secretary general said during a press briefing at hotel Golden courts in Arua town on Tuesday.

Mr Moses Angundru, the Terego West area MP who flanked Todwong during the media briefing claimed that all those involved and arrested in the Monday violence came from outside Arua.

President Yoweri Museveni while campaigning for the NRM party candidate Ms. Nusura Tiperu on Monady at Arua hill grounds warned the opposition against violence saying they are using a “wrong calculator and do not know what they are playing with”.

He also vowed to go after police officers who watch as innocent people are being attacked.

Voters in the municipality will cast their ballots on Wednesday the 15th August to replace the fallen Col Ibrahim Abiriga who was assassinated in Kawanda, a Kampala suburb.
