ARUA. The management of Onduparaka FC has confirmed that President Yoweri Museveni will preside over the climax of the ten years’ anniversary

The celebrations are expected to be held on the 25th February 2020 during which a number of activities have been lined up.

“It’s on 25th that we shall have the celebration of our 10 years anniversary and our chief guest is going to be the president of the republic of Uganda and he accepted to be with us”, Mr Benjamin Nyakuni, the club chairman announced.

Nyakuni while jointly addressing a press conference with Police regional publicist Josephine Angucia at Heritage courts hotel on Thursday said many other activities have been lined up to spice the day to befit the celebrations.

“There are a lot of activities going to happen that day, we shall have the people with disabilities, PWDS, a game between the main market women and the female fans of Onduparaka FC as well as a West Nile select side taking on Onduparaka FC” he further stated.

He said the event would also be used to launch a 15-year strategic plan, officially launch the club anthem and the bus project.

Mr Henry Baiga, the fans chairman rallied the club supporters to fill the stadium to capacity to celebrate the great achievement of making a decade as a football club.

“We all know that Onduparaka is our heritage, if you go to Kampala and other places you feel somehow special because of this club, so it is us to work hand in hand to keep this club for years to come” Baiga said.

“We the fans benefit from the club more than the management, some of the fans have Boda bodas, bars, hotels that benefit from the clubs establishment”, he said.

Mr Yusuf Andabati, the fans spokesperson urged fans to embrace the occasion despite the current short-term hiccups the club is facing.

“For centuries, no club in the top league from the West Nile region has stayed that long like Onduparaka and that in itself calls for celebration” Andabati said.

Ms Angucia confirmed that a letter through the office of the resident district commissioner (RDC) had indeed been received indicating that the head of state will grace the celebrations.

“We are already informed and we are in the process of getting the operation orders and the security arrangements to secure his Excellency and the people”

“It should be noted that celebrations of this magnitude attract many people and above all Onduparaka FC has many fans. Other people will join on learning that the president will attend, so it makes it inevitable that we take up the security to ensure that activities go on without any interruption” Angucia explained.

Asked what the club that has been facing serious financial and transport challenges expected the president to address on the day, media officer Mr Adams Lematia said that will be left to the president.

“We have told him what the football club does and what the club has been unable to do and I think he has also done his research; he will address what he can do within that context but we are not going to force him”, Lematia also known as Otelul said.

Lematia however cautioned that the anniversary celebration is not a political event and the president has purely been invited as the head of state.

“Across the world football clubs do not participate in politics, so let us leave our political differences out of this because we have invited the president because he is the head of state” he said
