ARUA. Police of Arua are holding a 21-year-old student for allegedly knocking the principal car of First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni’s convoy.

Hon. Kataha is the wife to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda and Ugandan Minister of Education and Sports.

Mr Francis Onen, the officer in charge of Traffic Arua said the incident occurred along Ediofe Cathedral road near Arua Government prison at about 8:30Pm (East African Time) on May 7, 2018.

The traffic officer was addressing journalists about the incident on Thursday morning at Arua central police station.

He identified the suspect now under police custody at Arua central police station (CPS) as Mophart Munguci, a resident of Ediofe trading centre in Pajulu Sub County, Arua district.

Onen said Munguci is a student in one of the secondary schools in Arua town which he (Onen) declined to mention.

“When the lead car of the First Lady’s convoy passed, Munguci joined the convoy and brushed the principal car. He was immediately arrested and brought to Arua CPS,” Onen explained.

“We later subjected Munguci to a breath test which showed that he was drunk with 013ug/mgs amount of alcohol in his body,” Onen added.

He said at the time of the incident, the suspect was riding an unregistered motorcycle without a riding permit.

He has been charged with reckless riding and the file sanctioned and forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.

“When we interrogated him (Munguci), he confessed that the motorcycle was not breaking, a reason he was caught up joining the convoy,” Onen narrated.

He said police is still investigating the case promising that soon Munguci will soon be produced in Court.

Onen called upon members of the public to always observe discipline while on road so as to reduce the increasing cases of accident in Uganda.
