KOBOKO. The people of Koboko district are mourning the untimely demise of their resident district commissioner (RDC), Isaac Kawooya.

Kawooya perished in an accident along Kampala - Masaka Highway at around 6:00am on Friday morning. He died together with his wife and four other people.

Police said the accident occurred at Mpambire swamp when a Toyota Premio registration number UAZ 417D in which the deceased was travelling in had a head-on collision with a trailer registration number T513 DNK/T881 DNG.

Mr Joseph Musana, the acting Katonga regional police spokesperson identified the other victims as; Haji Abudallah Muwonge, 54, of Nyamitanga Mbarara, Anastasie Mukakamali, 66, from Rwanda, Abed Mansoor Ssemanda of Kakoba Mbarara, Aharizira Christine, 25, of Mutojo Ntugamo and her five-year-old female child.

Reports indicate that Kawooya and his wife had travelled from Koboko to Mbarara to witness the installation of Mbarara District Khadi, Sheikh Abdulla Mukwaya who replaced the late Sheikh Ahammed Kwikiriza who died in a car accident on the eve of Iddi Day in 2017.

“It is a great loss for the people of Koboko district following his experience of work and the team work he has started building in the district,” Mr Hassan Nginya, the Koboko district chairman said when conducted on phone.

Similarly, the Koboko chief administrative officer (CAO), Mr George Adoko expressed sadness over Kawooya’s demise saying: “It is a big loss to us and as I speak now, we are much disorganised.”

“His death is really going to affect the district in terms of mobilization, coordination, communication and monitoring of government programs,” Adoko added.

The CAO said the late has been a very social and transparent leader in the few months (about six months) he has been in the district.

Late Kawooya replaced Ms Elizabeth Ayume during a colourful ceremony at Koboko district headquarters on November 2, 2018 after being posted by the President’s office from Soroti district.
