NEBBI. A Stanbic bank agent was on Saturday morning shot dead along Nebbi-Paidha road by an unknown gunmen who were on a motorcycle.

The incident took place at around 9:30 am at Jupukok village on Kei road as the tipper lorry registration number UAP 882F that was passing by at the time was also shot at.

The deceased, identified as Harrison Pimundu, met his death as he was coming from Paidha town council where he had gone to collect money from a business owner. His driver sustained minor injuries.

An eye witness identified as Ms Alice Akumu, a resident of Jupukok village, said that as they were going to the garden, they heard gun shots but thought it was a tyre burst and they saw two people speeding off on a numberless motorcycle and when they approached the lorry, that is when they realised that it was a robbery.

Police said the assailants might have trailed the deceased for a long time and the target was the deceased and the money he was carrying.

The deceased was shot twice and died instantly from the two gun shots he received in his chest as the assailants made away with undisclosed amount of money he was carrying to the bank.

A police source who declined to be mentioned because he is not authorized to speak on behalf of the force to the press said no one has been arrested in relation to the incident but investigations are ongoing.

He appealed to the public to give any information they have in relation to the incident so as to arrest the perpetrators adding that everyone should be vigilant if insecurity in the district is to be wiped.

The incident is the first of its nature in the district and has caused panic among the business community fearing that the return of armed robbery in the district may be at hand.
