NEBBI. Rt. Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, the Bishop of Arua Catholic diocese has called upon youths to fight selfish inclinations so as to have a peaceful country.

The Bishop made the appeal while presiding over a mass organized to mark the beginning of a week-long national youth conference at Nebbi Cathedral Parish on Tuesday.

Over 7, 000 youths across the country turned up for the conference being held under the theme: “Don’t be afraid Mary, for you have found favour with God.”

During the mass, Odoki advised the youths to desist from acts of egoism but rather learn to love, share with their neighbours and be good to one another for peace to prevail in the country.

The Bishop also urged the youth to listen to God by always reading the scriptures in the Bible, respect their parents, elders and church leaders if they are to get wisdom.

“The spirit of individualism has taken over the world and it is the reason people no longer appreciate their neighbours. There are so many tendencies of relying on own families, tribe and ethnicity, a barrier you need to break. Start looking for neighbours beyond your home for peaceful co-existence,” he said.

“Leave all the negative side of your life and let the week be a moment of grace where you are able to associate with new people and value everyone because with love we promote peace,” Odoki added.

Mr. Gilbert Ongom, a youth from Paidha in Zombo district commended the Bishop for the fatherly advice and said the youth conference is a good opportunity for the youths to come together and share the word of God.

“I know that after the one week, we would have learnt a lot and we shall go back to our parishes as new people. It is really a good experience for all the youths who have managed to come here. We only need to go back and practice what we shall learn," Ongom said.
