NEBBI. Police in Nebbi have arrested and detained the Local council 1 chairman of Parabong Ramogi village, Kucwiny Sub County, Nebbi district for allegedly killing his brother.
Nebbi district Police Commander Mr George Obia revealed that they are holding the suspect to answer to charges of murder of one, late Charles Oromchan.
“I can confirm that we have the LC1 chairperson of Paramogi Ramaogi village who was arrested and handed over to police by the community on allegation of hitting his brother on the head to death and investigations are on-going and he will later be taken to court”, Obia said.
He said according to close relatives, the suspect and the deceased for some time have been having land dispute problems not until on Wednesday afternoon when the two picked up a quarrel which resulted into a fight forcing the suspect to pick a hoe which he used to hit the deceased on the head who died instantly.
“It’s very unfortunate to see that life has been lost over land matters that could have been resolved in a peaceful way through engaging the judiciary courts, LC courts and clan chiefs rather than resorting to violence”, he said.
He said although the murder is the first this year resulting from land dispute, continuous community policing is needed to avoid such occurrences in the future.
Obia said police is overwhelmed with many land wrangles which are being investigated by the police, the RDC’s office and other local government authorities.
