PAKWACH. A traffic police officer attached to Pakwach central police station (CPS) is undergoing treatment at Pakwach Health Centre (HC) IV after breaking his left leg in an accident involving a police patrol vehicle, he was travelling in.
Mr Alex Kayizi broke his leg in the accident that occurred along Pakwach -Wadelai road at about 9:15 am (EAT) on Saturday.
According to ASP Frank Muzoora, the Pakwach district police commander (DPC), at the time of the accident, the patrol vehicle registration number UP 5671 was being driven by a female police driver only identified as Atim.
Muzoora noted that Atim lost control while dodging a pothole and veered off the road thus leading to the accident.
He said in the process, Kayizi sustained a compound fracture while the other four police officers who were also on board sustained minor injuries.
Muzoora said the patrol was part of the routine police work aimed at intensifying vigilance especially in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
"It is a sad moment for us, we are now considering to transfer Kayizi to a better hospital near his family members for further management. We regret the unfortunate incident!" Muzoora said.
In a related incident, the police in Pakwach has confirmed the death of William Adiga, 38, a worker of Hima cement who rammed into a stationary car using a motorcycle on Friday evening.
Adiga sustained deep cuts on his foreface and was rushed to Pakwach HC IV where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
