Zombo. Attendants at Paidha health centre III on Thursday showered the state minister for northern Uganda Ms. Grace Freedom kwiyocwiny with praises after her friends from EG-Solar Company based in Germany donated two parabolic solar systems to help ease cooking.

Kwiyocwiny doubles as the woman Member of Parliament for Zombo district.

The minister said she lobbied for at least 10 parabolic solar cooking devices from her German friends and Prince Kimbugwe Foundation.

She also said the equipment will go a long way in minimizing the pressure on the environment due anticipated reduction in use of firewood for cooking.

“I have seen how attendants here struggle in search of firewood and charcoal to prepare food for the patients but I tell you this is going to be history with the use of the parabolic solar now at your disposal,” she said during the handover on Friday.

Other health facilities that also received the solar energy cooking equipment in the district include; Nyapea, Zombo, Warr and Zeu with each receiving two pieces each.

Ms. Jane Ongiera, an attendant said the solar cooking equipment will reduce their expenditure on charcoal and firewood and above all make food preparation easier and quicker.

“I’m actually very happy because we shall now use the money we have been using to buy charcoal and firewood to improve on the diet of our patients,” she said.

Ongiera appealed to the legislator to consider lobbying for more solar cooking equipment to match the ever increasing number of patients at the health facilities.

Ms. Jesca Fuacan, another attendant said the solar cooking equipment will attract more expectant mothers to report to the facility in time because of the convenience in cooking.

“This will enable women to report in time unlike before when most women would report almost on the day of their delivery hence posing a risk to their lives,” she said.

Fuacan also urged local authorities to lobby for more investments that promote the health sector in order to entice the people to have good health seeking behaviours.
