ZOMBO. West Nile region has qualified for the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) drum quarter final after thrashing Karamoja region 5 goals to 1 in a tactful match played at Barokoro stadium in Paidha town council, Zombo district on Sunday.
The win takes West Nile on the top of FUFA drum table standing with 11 points in group D. Other teams in the group are Ankole and Tooro.
Few minutes to the end of first half, West Nile side goal keeper, Nafian Alionzi was sent off from the pitch for making a save outside the 18 yard box.
But despite the red card, West Nile players remained composed and added one more goal in the second half to seal their 5-1 victory over Karamoja.
In the next fixture, West Nile region is scheduled to take on the Ankole region on 17th June 2018 at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara as Karamoja takes on Tooro in a must win game on the same date.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Mr Omar Abdala, the West Nile coach said his boys are determined to put up a spirited battle against the Ankole to fetch the three points.
“We shall play as if we have no point but for the game against Karamoja, I’m disappointed by the red card our goal keeper got in the first half,” Omar told journalists.
Meanwhile Mr Moses Okiror, the Karamoja region coach admitted that they were disorganized by the four goals scored in the first half. He said after the goals, his players lost concentration.
“But I’m optimistic of winning the game against Tooro,” Okiror said.
Mr Gadafi Wahab aka Adjumani was crowned the man of the match and given an accolade and shs100.000 by the Fufa match commissioner, Mr Livingstone Rajan.
FUFA is the governing body of Ugandan Football. The football association which was affiliated to FIFA in 1960 and CAF in 1961 respectively was originally founded in 1924.
